I ordered this at Barnes an Noble in Brandon. I found out it has been out since August. I will review it on Amazon and also on Plant City Lady and Friends--the blog about our Alzheimer's journey.
When will the e-book come out?

Thank you for my autographed book Mary! And thanks for mentioning me in the book! I have really appreciated your support and enjoyed our conversations over the lasy few years. You were a major inspiration for my current research on seizures, cancer and Alzheimer's disease with ketone esters at USF.
We are making great efforts to scale up our production of Ketone Esters within the next year. In the meantime I've heard of people using 1,3-butanediol (50 - 100 ml/day) to safely and effectively raise blood ketones. 1,3-butanediol is a very cheap and highly effective ketogenic precursor when compared to MCT oil and has a very good safety profile.

Hello Mary, my son is 4 yrs 10 months old and has been diagnosed with Landau Kleffner. He completely lost his receptive/ expressive language about 1.5 years ago. Regression probably started at 2.5 years old.We have done extensive blood panel with a DAN Doctor, been to see many specialist in US and abroad, taveled many miles and contacted many others and spent thousands of dollars. We are doing intensive homeopathy, osteopathy, B12 shots, clay baths, sign language, many supplemnets etc.but have avoided the usual AED, valium and Steriod prescription route. We have seen improvement in his overall disposition, sleep, physical (swim, rides bike, and learned to ski) and ability to learn sign. Cognitively he is extremely bright, the language is the problem, sub clinical spikes during sleep eeg.
Never immunized,we try to eat healthy, no fast food, processed etc This child has been subjected to many tests MRI, Spinal punch, eegs etc and is so resistive to hospitals and doctors now which makes tx very difficult. I beleive there has been some form of virus as he was sick, fever ear infections several times during the same year that H1N1 became prevalent. He seemed to recover eventually.
I was researching LKS and HSV and you posted a comment on Sharon's site about formula I am extremely concerned for my 10 month baby whom I've weaned to formula due to the stresses/ demand I wish I could continue breastfeeding but am declining in health. My other question was about MCT oil ( we try to give him EPA/DHA oil by Pure Encap.) Thank you for you time and response.

Dr. Mary,
Your book which I got last night when it came in to Barnes and Nobel is so inclusive of the issues. I feel like I know you and Steve now. I have more scientific reasons why the coconut oil has worked for my husband and why I should continue it. Hope your book gets a wide readership. Thanks for being so forceful in getting the word out about coconut oil.

I have not had a chance to read your book, but I am very interested in your research. I hope the following information will be of use to you and other researchers and to caregivers, as there appears to be a variety of ways to treat Alzheimer's disease.
Peroxynitrites appear to be the main cause of Alzheimer's disease. Peroxynitrites oxidize choline transport systems, the enzyme choline acetyltransferases, and g proteins coupled to acetylcholine muscarinic receptors, thus limiting the amount of acetylcholine available for short-term memory. Peroxynitrites also oxidize g proteins coupled to receptors involved in smell (olfactory), sleep (melatonin), mood (serotonin), and alertness (dopamine), leading to deficits in all of these areas for those with Alzheimer's disease. The list of antioxidant peroxynitrite scavengers that have succeeded in improving cognitive function in animal models, case studies, and clinical trials of Alzheimer's disease is quite long, but they include ketones (from coconut oil, for instance), minocycline and other tetracyline antibiotics, rosmarinic acid, grape seed extract, cinnamon extract, Cinnamomum zeylanicum essential oil, rosemary essential oil, sage essential oil, and lemon balm essential oil. Jimbo and colleagues using aromatherapy and Akhondzadeh and colleagues using tinctures of essential oil saw significant improvements in cognitive function in Alzheimer's patients (and in the case of the Jimbo study with patients who had other forms of dementia). Peroxynitrites are also implicated in a series of other diseases as well including many forms of cancer, some forms of heart disease and stroke, type 2 diabetes, ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. Indeed compounds that scavenge peroxynitrites have the potential to treat many disease, including of course, Alzheimer's disease.

I enjoyed your article on coconut oil very much and I'm so glad your husband is doing well. :) I wonder if he might benefit also from epsom salt baths? Here is a website I ran across around the same time as yours: http://www.westonaprice.org/vitamins-and-minerals/sulfur-deficiency

I first saw your Youtube video last July (2011) and began giving my 60 year old wife coconut oil for her Alzheimer's. My wife's case parallels Steve's including the onset chronology and Herpes blisters. Unfortunately we were unable to find a physician to provide a diagnosis until last December (2010). My wife was about 5.5 on the 7.0 point scale of onset. Given the number of parallels in the two cases I will provide a detailed recap in a later note on this blog. I was guessing about the dosage until I began reading the book. I've immediately increased from 1 tbs/day to 4 tbs/day to compliment the heavy emphasis on raw vegetables and fruits.

Hi, I just purchased some MCT oil from the Health Food store, and was reading the label, and it said, "do not take if you have liver problems". Why would they say that? Can MCT oil put stress on the liver? I thought it would be good for the liver?
Also, my Mom is becoming extemely FORGETTFUL, its very worrisome....she will repeat the same question over and over with a period of couple of minutes, and tell the same story repeatedly! She is 71 years old. My Dad covers up for her a lot, I've noticed. What what would you recommend for her? Thanks! Jan

Hello Dr. Newport,
I've read that MCT oils, and coconut oil can be harmful in the fact that it raises cholesterol levels. Is this another myth?
Thank you, J. Fehr

Anonymous,
MTC is more pure form of coconut oil. You can get it from http://www.vitacost.com/.
You need to read Dr. Newport's book or a book like "The Coconut Oil Miracle".

Having problems with this phone. I wanted to share my last few months with others who may be going through the same things that I have. I started to read Mary's book I thought she was writing about my 64 year old husband and myself trying to make sense of our drs visit Nov 4th. His genetic blood tests gives my husband Alsheimer on both parents sides.
The DR. gave him meds and said Ii will see you in 6 months. The meds did absolutely nothing.he became more of a zombie then he was. I was told on Christmas Eve about DR.MArys book and coconut oil. My husband had no clue on the year we were currently in. when asked the question he would look blanked and did not understand the 4 word question. I started him on 2 tablespoon twice a day ,day after Christmas. 11 days later he knew it was 2012 and did not ask me what do you mean what year is it? He was told by the DR in November--- no driving advised and made sure he wrote it down in black and white for us to abide by.
The DR. Said if you past a driving evaluation test at a later date (after being on Arecept) you can drive. At that point I thought IWould be selling his car because he was really bad
This satisfied my husband and later made a date. ..February 16th, 2012 we went for his 2 hour tests. He passed. The drs. Office called us immediately to let us know he passed the test and that he can drive again. The drs do not know , he has not taken ARecept medication
since December 27 and is on Coconut oil. Thank you Dr.Newport for you have given us hope after being devasted. I am not finished reading the book but I will do so.it has educated me and given me a clearer understanding of the disease and how we can treat it with less drugs naturally. Prayers and support has also been a great help to me and my family. My husband lost his father JUly 2011 who had this disease and my mom is presently with this same horrible disease.

Dr. Newport:
After viewing all your videos on youtube.com and listening to your interview with Dr. Su, I purchased a kindle version of your book yesterday and read deep into the night. Popped up this morning and continued reading... your book provides such a wonderful insight into Steve and yourself.... Steve is a lovely man and very lucky to have such a dedicated and resourceful wife. I am only half way through the book, but it is such a delightful read that I just had to send you this message.
